‘Project Love’ spreads the festive cheer to needy residents

About 140 needy residents of different races received food hampers, grocery vouchers and red packets on Saturday, 14 January 2012 at Jurong Central Estate at between 9.00am to 12.15pm. ‘Project Love’, organised by Jurong Central Grassroots Organisations (GROs), together with schools and voluntary welfare organisations, aims to help spread the festive cheer to the needy.
Mooted by Adviser to Jurong GRC GROs, Mr Ang Wei Neng, said, “We would like all residents to be involved in the festive celebrations regardless of family background. At the same time, we would also like to expose students to volunteerism at a young age and instill in them the spirit of community service”.
Grassroots leaders, volunteers and students will go door to door at Blocks 301 to 316 and 329 to 341 Jurong East Ave 1 / St 32 and Blocks 401 to 440 and 474 to 498 Jurong West Ave 1 / St 41 / St 42 to present each needy resident with a food hamper, $70 worth of grocery vouchers and a $30 red packet. Students from Fuhua, Hua Yi, Hong Kah and Jurongville Secondary Schools and Jurong Primary School, helped to pack the food hamper which comprised of food items. Jurong Central Citizens’ Consultative Committee sponsored the grocery vouchers, while the red packets are sponsored by Lions Clubs of Singapore.
